Define what a successful part looks like
State whether you need to judge appearance, check an assembly or evaluate a defined function. Those goals can lead to different process, orientation and finishing decisions even for the same geometry. Identify the faces people will see and the dimensions that must be checked.
Send the overall size, quantity, file status and delivery city with the brief. If the material is undecided, explain the environment and expected handling so the quotation can identify an appropriate available option. A photograph alone cannot establish a material grade or a fit requirement.
Understand the scope behind the total
| Item | What to clarify | Why weight alone misses it |
|---|---|---|
| File preparation | Usable geometry, units, revision and any repair/design work | Preparing a small complex part can differ from a large simple one. |
| Printing | Process, selected material, orientation and quantity | Support and setup depend on geometry and the chosen process. |
| Post-processing | Support removal, cleaning, assembly or agreed finish | The delivered appearance is a separate requirement. |
| Inspection | Which dimensions or interfaces will be checked | An inspection requirement must be defined. |
| Delivery | Destination, packing and required date | Handover is more than the printed object. |
Compare the same deliverable
When comparing suppliers, check that quantities, material grades, visible finish, supports, assembly and delivery are aligned. Ask which assumptions still need confirmation. Record taxes, shipping, payment terms and quotation validity in the actual offer rather than relying on a generic web price.
Quantity and timing belong in the first brief
Specify the number of each unique part and whether a trial part should be reviewed before the remaining quantity. A request for ten sets may contain several different components; include a part list so the quote reflects the complete set.
Distinguish the date a part is needed from the date of a meeting or exhibition. Mention any review required before the final quantity. The provider can then confirm feasibility and dependencies for the actual file; this page does not promise a turnaround time.
A concise quote request you can copy
Use the CAD preparation checklist before sharing files. If the process is undecided, compare FDM and resin or start with the manufacturing service selector. Confidential CAD is not uploaded through the public enquiry form.
